What is YAML Viewer?
YAML Viewer is an interactive inspection tool that parses YAML configuration files and renders them as a collapsible, visual node tree. As DevOps configurations grow to hundreds of lines containing deeply nested mappings and lists, navigating flat text becomes cumbersome. The YAML Viewer bridges this gap by rendering mappings, sequences, scalars, and document markers as an expandable visual tree, enabling engineers to inspect structural relationships quickly.
How to use YAML Viewer
Paste your YAML content into the input canvas. The viewer automatically builds a dynamic tree view on the right pane. Expand or collapse mappings, lists, and scalar properties with single clicks. The tool displays inferred primitive data types (string, integer, boolean, null) for scalar nodes and resolves anchors (&) and aliases (*) visually. Use 'Expand All' or 'Collapse All' to toggle the entire view.
Key features
- Interactive collapsible visual tree for YAML mappings and lists
- Visual type indicators for strings, numbers, booleans, and null values
- Anchor (&) and Alias (*) resolution display
- Multi-document YAML support (separated by ---)
- Global 'Expand All' and 'Collapse All' view toggles
- One-click property copying
- 100% private client-side processing
Common use cases
- Exploring complex Kubernetes manifests containing multiple nested deployments and config maps
- Inspecting Helm chart values.yaml files
- Navigating OpenAPI/Swagger YAML specs during API reviews
- Auditing GitHub Actions workflow step hierarchies
- Reviewing Ansible role variable files
Technical details & standards
The viewer uses a compliant YAML AST parser to construct an in-memory object model, mapping key-value associations to dynamic interactive UI nodes. Everything runs 100% client-side in browser JavaScript, keeping your server credentials, Kubernetes secrets, and cloud configurations completely private.
Frequently asked questions
Can YAML Viewer visually resolve anchor references?
Yes. Alias nodes (*aliasName) show their linked anchor content inline for easy inspection.
Is my data sent to any server?
No. The viewer runs entirely in your local browser memory.
Is my data safe?
All processing happens entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device and is never sent to or stored on a server.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, most tools keep working without an internet connection.
